Our slimealike mixed chemistry and sensory play
Slimealike
Slimealike – your own version of play Slime – is fast, fun, and easy to make, and involves both chemistry and sensory play.
We slightly modified an inexpensive recipe from About.com and it worked great because all you need is borax, white glue, and water.
Gear, cost, & time
Relatively inexpensive at about $5 total in the United States compared to the commercially produced version and it makes quite a bit.
This recipe only takes about 10 minutes to make and is very accessible for kids:
- Borax x1 (~$4 at local supermarket)
- White glue x1 (~$0.67 for 4oz bottle at local supermarket)
- Water and mixing bowls x 2 (free at home)
How we did it
- In bowl A, mix 1 teaspoon borax in 1 cup of warm water and stir until dissolved.
- In bowl B, mix 1/2 cup (4 oz) white glue with 1/2 cup water and still until blended.
- Pour bowl A into bowl B, and stir until mixed. We used our hands to squeeze and combine the mixture once the spoon stopped working well.
- Remove the Slimealike from the bowl to finish combining it with your hands (some of the water can stay in the bowl).
The mixture starts turning into Slimealike right away, but it takes a little while to actually finish and setup.
That's OK – just keep playing with it and you'll find the right consistency after a little while.
