Jersey City Pi Day at LSC

Jersey City Pi Day

Math is fun!

We visited Liberty Science Center for Jersey City Pi day.

Watch our video above and check out the resources below for more information.

Pi day is a chance to celebrate math and see how it manifests itself into real life. Kids of all ages saw math in action as they built their own cars out of wooden shapes (geometry!), made paper airplanes (angles!), and took part in hands-on activities by a dozen enrichment companies including Sylvan Learning, Mathnasium, as well as maker spaces like Kid Bilt and JC Fab Lab.

Pi is the beloved mathematical constant (3.14...) that is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. Beloved? Yes! LCCS joined forces with Google Expeditions and Parson’s School of Design & Technology, along with a a select group of partner-sponsors like Mathnasium to provide the community with the ultimate “STEM-centric” experience for kids of all ages. This year, more than 1,000 attendees participated in Pi (π) Day and engaged in a variety of hands-on activities, such as virtual reality exhibits, apps, kid-generated video games, robotics, crafts, and board games. Pi Day is also a vital fundraiser for the Learning Community Charter School. LCCS serves 585 students from all over Jersey City. – LCCS
