2016 Stevens Summer Video Camp
IT'S A WRAP!
Students enrolled in our Video Production Summer Camp at Stevens Cooperative School in downtown Jersey City had a blast producing, creating, and staring in their very own variety show.
For two weeks, our program in video production taught technical and soft skills – in a fun, accessible way – as students worked together to produce real world videos highlighting each other and their interests.
We coached students on how to present, communicate, and express point of view on camera while building self-confidence, and use video to effectively create a mini-segment.
Students wrote, rehearsed, and worked in teams behind the scenes before putting it together in front of the camera to self-produce their own video.
MADE BY STUDENTS
After learning the basics and being introduced to our professional equipment, each student used our video production planners to outline, script, produce, and stat in up to 5 separate videos each designed around our curriculum to progressively introduce new skills.
Their video productions were self produced, with students taking turns as directors, camera operators, and sound / light / producers to support current student on-screen, then rotating through those positions for the next student.
As a bonus, students were given the option to create, produce, and star in their very own commercials on any imaginary item or service – which included fun tongue-in-cheek concepts such as the Magic Tape Helmet, Floaty, CrayLips, and the Best Store Ever.
Students then helped off-line edit and chose which of their videos they wanted featured in the for their final screening to parents and school staff held theater-style in the school gym.
We had a blast as well, helping their creations come to life on screen and celebrating how much they learned. Special thanks to Stevens Cooperative, parents, and most of all students for another successful year!
